Beads and Wraps

Price: $20 – $80

15 – 60 minutes

Decorating your dreadlocks with wraps and beads is a fun way to further show off your personal style. Wraps are done by wrapping embroidery floss around your dreadlocks in different patterns. They can be as simple as a single colored criss-cross wrap that takes just a couple of minutes, a solid wrap that covers the entire dread in one or more colors, or as complex as you like, with different colors, materials, and patterns. You can choose to tie in beads, crystals, and charms and customize them however you want.

We also carry a variety of beads and other accessories you can add into your dreads. Most of the beads we offer are handmade by us so you can feel good about supporting local artists from start to finish.

FAQ:

Do I have to wait to put wraps and beads in my new dreadlocks?

No, you can start decorating your dreads from day one! New dreads tend to get really messy, so we recommend removing wraps every maintenance or every other maintenance to ensure they don’t get stuck in your dreads. Beads also need to be adjusted so maintenance can be done around them. So as long as you come in for your regular maintenance appointments, your loctician can keep an eye on your decorations and make recommendations as needed.

Do I have to remove my wraps and beads?

Technically, no. As your dreadlocks mature, your dreads will thicken up around your beads and loose hair will grow around wraps. Both wraps and beads may become permanently stuck in your dreadlocks if you do not replace them or adjust them. Some clients don’t mind this, but if you don’t want decorations to become permanent, it’s important to listen to your locticians advice on when to remove them.

What size beads will fit my dreadlocks?

Everyone’s dreadlocks are going to be different sizes, so there is no one-size-fits-all-answer to this question. Most dreadlock beads you find will have the size of the hole listed in “mm”. You can use any standard ruler to measure the diameter, or width, of your dreads in mm. most dreadlocks will be smaller at the top, or root, and larger in the middle, or body of the dread. Depending on where you want to wear a specific bead will determine what part of your dreadlock you need to measure to find the right fit. If your dreadlocks are thicker at the ends, you’ll need to measure there to make sure that beads will fit over the thickest part. Dreads should have some give to them, so typically, a bead 1-2mm smaller than the dimeter of your dread should fit snugly without being too tight while also being tight enough not to slide off.

Can I bring my own beads?

Yes! You’re always welcome to bring in beads from home or that you’ve purchased elsewhere and we can put them in your dreads for you.
